Plans, billing and usage
Change plans, pay with a card or mobile money through Paystack, understand metered usage and invoices, and set spending alerts and a spend limit.
Every organisation has a plan, paid monthly in Ghana cedis through Paystack, and Free needs no card. The Billing page shows your plan, what this period will cost, how you pay and every invoice, and Usage shows how much of each limit you've used.
What do the plans cost?
| Plan | Price | For |
|---|---|---|
| Free | GHS 0 | Trying Dekka with one small application |
| Starter | GHS 149 a month | A production application with its database and storage |
| Growth | GHS 299 a month | Small teams running several services |
Plans and limits lists what each plan includes. If you need more than Growth includes, talk to us.
Upgrade your plan
On Billing, choose Change plan, then Upgrade to Starter or Upgrade to Growth. Paystack's checkout opens, where you can pay with a card or a mobile money wallet. Once Paystack confirms the payment, the new limits apply straight away, a new monthly period starts that day, and the full monthly price is charged then.
Paystack saves the card or wallet you pay with at checkout, and the default one is charged at each renewal. If you have more than one saved, choose the default under How you pay.
Downgrade or cancel
Choosing Move to Starter from Growth schedules the change for the end of the current period, so you keep what you paid for until then. Cancel plan does the same with Free, and Keep Starter or Keep Growth undoes a cancellation before the period ends. Moving to a smaller plan never stops or deletes what you already run, but you can't create anything that would go past the smaller plan's limits.
How does metered usage work?
Dekka measures build minutes, Redis memory and volume size as they're used, and each plan includes an amount of each every period. On Starter and Growth, use beyond the included amount is billed on the next invoice, and on Free the included amount is a limit.
| Meter | Measured as | Price beyond what's included |
|---|---|---|
| Redis | GB-hours of Redis memory | GHS 0.05 a GB-hour |
| Volumes | GB-hours of volume size | GHS 0.002 a GB-hour |
| Build minutes | Minutes spent building from GitHub | GHS 0.05 a minute |
Redis and volumes are measured every hour from what is allocated, and each plan includes its Redis memory and volume allowance for a 730-hour month, so staying within your allowance costs nothing extra. On Free, Dekka refuses a new build once the month's build minutes are used. The plan catalogue also prices object storage at GHS 1.50 a GB-month and egress at GHS 1.00 a GB, but Dekka doesn't measure either yet. The Billing page shows this period's usage and an estimate of the next invoice.
Set spending alerts and a limit
Under Spending alerts and limit on the Billing page, add each amount you want an email at under Email me when usage reaches, set a Hard limit if you want one, and choose Save. Owners and admins can change these, and an organisation can have up to 10 alerts. To remove the limit, clear the field and save.
Alerts and the limit are compared with this period's estimated usage charges, which is what metered use beyond your plan's allowances adds to the next invoice, without the plan's own price. The page shows the current estimate, which uses the same pilot prices as the table above. Each alert emails the organisation's owners and admins once a period, the first time the estimate reaches it, and reaching the hard limit sends one more email.
What happens at the spend limit?
Once the estimate reaches the hard limit, Dekka refuses anything that would add to the bill with 403 spend_limit_reached. That covers creating a service, database or bucket, every deployment including redeploys and rollbacks, starting a stopped service, giving a service more memory, vCPU or replicas, giving a database more storage or Redis more memory, adding volume space, and metered use.
Services that are running keep running, so the Redis memory and volumes they already have go on being measured and the estimate can still pass the limit. Raising or removing the limit lets you carry on straight away, and otherwise the limit lifts when the next period starts. The error's details hold the limit_minor and estimate_minor in pesewas, the currency and the period_end.
Choose which emails you get
Dekka emails the owners and admins of an organisation when a usage alert or the spend limit is reached, and emails them and the person who started a deployment when it fails. Each person can turn either email off for every organisation they belong to under Settings, then Account, in Email notifications, where the switches are Failed deploys and Usage alerts. Both are on until you turn them off.
Invoices
Dekka issues an invoice at the end of each paid period with the plan and any metered usage, and charges your default payment method. Download any invoice from Invoices. Under Invoice details, set the billing email, company name, address and your Ghana TIN, and they appear on later invoices.
What if a payment fails?
If a renewal isn't paid within three days of a new period starting, the plan is marked Payment overdue. If it's still unpaid seven days later, the organisation moves to Free.
